|---|---|
| Application Start Date | 18 May 2026 |
| Last Date to Apply | 15 June 2026 |
| Last Date for Fee Payment | 15 June 2026 |

First, understand what JNU is offering
JNU is not a regular university. It is consistently ranked among the top three central universities in India. Faculty positions here come with:
-
Academic freedom
-
Strong research culture
-
Central government pay scale (7th Pay Commission)
-
Retirement benefits and pension
-
Opportunity to guide PhD scholars
This is why thousands of PhD holders apply every time JNU releases a faculty recruitment notification. But only those with the right qualifications, research score, and publication record make it through.
Vacancy details: 100 posts across departments
The university has not released department-wise breakup in the initial notification. But the 100 vacancies are distributed across:
-
Professor
-
Associate Professor
-
Assistant Professor
You need to check the official notification PDF on jnu.ac.in to see which departments have openings. Different departments may have different requirements.
Educational qualification – what you actually need
For Professor
This is the highest faculty rank. JNU expects a lot.
Minimum requirements:
-
PhD in the relevant discipline from a recognized university
-
Minimum 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or reputed journals
-
Research score of 120 (as per UGC norms)
-
Minimum 10 years of teaching or research experience
What gives you an edge:
-
Experience guiding PhD scholars
-
Research projects completed
-
International publications
-
Post-doctoral research
Without a strong publication record, your application may not even be shortlisted.
For Associate Professor
This is a mid-level faculty position. Teaching experience matters more here.
Minimum requirements:
-
Master’s degree with at least 55% marks
-
PhD in the relevant subject
-
Minimum 8 years of teaching or research experience
-
At least 7 research publications in reputed journals
-
Research score of 75
Important: The 8 years of experience should be after your Master’s degree. Teaching experience during PhD may not count fully.
For Assistant Professor
This is the entry-level faculty position. Fresh PhD holders usually apply here.
Minimum requirements:
-
Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks in the relevant subject
-
PhD degree according to UGC norms
And one of these:
-
Qualified NET (National Eligibility Test)
-
Qualified SLET or SET (State Level Eligibility Test)
-
PhD degree with UGC exemption norms
Good news: If you have a PhD from a recognized university and have published research papers, you may be exempted from NET. But check the official notification for exact exemption rules.
Age limit – what the notification says
The official notification does not mention a specific age limit for faculty posts. This is common for central university faculty recruitments.
But here is the reality: Your experience, research record, and academic qualifications matter far more than your age. I have seen professors getting selected at 55 and assistant professors at 35.
However, you must meet all educational qualifications and research requirements. That is the real filter.
Selection process – how JNU actually picks candidates
This is not a written exam based recruitment. JNU follows a multi-stage process.
Stage 1: Shortlisting
The university screens every application. They look at:
-
Your PhD subject and university
-
Number and quality of research publications
-
Research score (120 for Professor, 75 for Associate Professor)
-
Teaching experience (years and institutions)
-
NET/SLET qualification
Only shortlisted candidates move to the next stage.
Stage 2: Document verification
You will be asked to bring original certificates:
-
All degree certificates and mark sheets
-
Experience certificates from previous employers
-
Publication list with journal details
-
Category certificates (if applicable)
Stage 3: Personal interview
This is the most important stage. A panel of experts will ask you about:
-
Your research work and PhD thesis
-
Future research plans
-
Teaching methodology
-
Subject expertise
-
Publications and their impact
Stage 4: Final merit list
Selection is based on your interview performance, academic record, and research profile. The university then releases a final merit list on the official website.
Salary – what you will actually get paid
JNU follows the 7th Pay Commission. The salary figures mentioned in the notification are the pay scale ranges.
| Post | Monthly Salary Range |
|---|---|
| Professor | ₹1,44,200 – ₹2,18,200 |
| Associate Professor | ₹1,31,400 – ₹2,17,100 |
| Assistant Professor | ₹57,700 – ₹1,82,400 |
But wait. The actual in-hand salary is higher.
On top of the basic pay, you get:
-
Dearness Allowance (DA) – revised every 6 months
-
House Rent Allowance (HRA) – 24% to 27% depending on city
-
Transport Allowance
-
Medical benefits
-
Pension contributions
So a Professor with a basic pay of ₹1,44,200 actually takes home around ₹1,80,000 to ₹2,00,000 per month after adding allowances.
An Assistant Professor with basic pay of ₹57,700 takes home around ₹75,000 to ₹85,000 per month initially.
Application fee – who pays and who doesn’t
| Category | Application Fee |
|---|---|
| General | ₹2000 |
| OBC | ₹2000 |
| EWS | ₹2000 |
| SC | No fee |
| ST | No fee |
| PwD | No fee |
| Female candidates | No fee |
Pay online through debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI.
Important: The fee is non-refundable even if your application is rejected or you are not shortlisted.

5 mistakes that will get your application rejected
I have seen PhD holders make these errors every single year.
1. Wrong research score calculation
Research score of 120 for Professor and 75 for Associate Professor is mandatory. If you miscalculate or overclaim, your application will be rejected during scrutiny.
Solution: Use the UGC research score calculator. Attach the calculation sheet with your application.
2. Publication not in recognized journals
Not every journal counts. The journal must be peer-reviewed, UGC-approved, and have an ISSN number. Conference papers without full publication may not be counted.
Solution: Only list publications in UGC CARE listed journals or reputed peer-reviewed journals.
3. Experience certificates missing details
Your experience certificate must clearly mention:
-
Post held (Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor)
-
Duration (from date to date)
-
Full-time or part-time
-
Nature of duties (teaching or research)
If any detail is missing, JNU may not count that experience.
4. Uploading unclear documents
Blurry photographs, unreadable signatures, or scanned certificates with poor quality will get your application rejected during initial screening.
Solution: Scan all documents at 200-300 DPI. Save as PDF or JPEG as specified. Check every file before uploading.
5. Missing the deadline
Last date 15 June 2026 hai. JNU does not extend deadlines. If you apply on the last day and the server crashes, you lose your chance.
Solution: Apply at least 5-7 days before 15 June.

Go to jnu.ac.in and download the official notification PDF
-
Check department-wise vacancies – some departments may not have openings
-
Calculate your research score honestly
-
Collect all your publication PDFs and experience certificates
-
18 May 2026 se form bharana shuru karo

And one more thing: Do not pay any agent. The application process is completely online. JNU never asks for money beyond the official application fee. If someone promises you a faculty seat for money, they are lying.
